Ranae and Kevin Dietzel moved to central Iowa to raise their kids and start a dairy farm unlike any around. It’s small-scale, free of carbon-intensive synthetic fertilizers, and full of a healthy diversity of grasses and legumes. They’re farming using climate-friendly practices that trap carbon in the soil and make the land more resilient to climate extremes. To Ranae, a soil scientist, there’s no doubt her soil is healthier.
